SUMMARY:Workshop with Nadine Sanders -- "Woven Inlay; Paint with Fabric"
DESCRIPTION:Join Nadine Sanders as you discover the techniques of Theo Moorman. This creative technique allows weavers to lay weft fibers in amongst nearly invisible warp fibers\, so that the extra fibers seem to float in the weaving. The workshop is a two day workshop on both the 15 and 16th of March at St. Andrews\n\nNadine weaves clothing\, rugs and wall hangings with a focus on pictorial design.  She makes art quilts that combine weaving and quilting.  Writings\, songs\, photography\, people and wilderness outings inspire her designs.  She has presented over 150 workshops\, program and retreats in the US\, Canada and The UK.  Nadine teaches because she loves to help students realize their creative potential.  She also leads Threads Ruins and Tunes tours in Scotland.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nNadine and Co-author Joyce Harter have written two books about the Theo Moorman weaving technique:  Weaving that Sings\,  and Theme and Variation; More Weaving That Sings. \n\n\n\n\nExamples of the technique can be found on the Gallery page\n\n\n\n\nWho:   Those with the ability to warp their loom and weave plain weave.   4-Shaft\nWhat:   Multi-layered inlay technique\, a variation of the Theo Moorman technique.\nWhen:  Saturday\, March 15 and Sunday March 16\,  9:00 – 4:30 each day\nWhere:  St. Andrew’s Church in our usual meeting area.\nWhy:  To learn inlay\, and learn to “paint with fabric” to create bags\, placements\, runners\,  pillow tops\, wall hangings\, and panels for clothing.\nHow: Materials fee of $30 covers pre-made warp\, priority mail shipping\, fabric stabilizer and  materials for cartoons for use in class\, and workshop booklet 40+ pages.\nCost:  Minimum of 8 = $100\,   Class of 16 = $50       Supply fee  $30\n\nStudent supplies to bring to class:\n\n-4-H Table or floor loom warped and ready to weave.\n-Personal weaving tools\n-A willingness to try something new!\n-Set of rotary cutter\, extra blade\, gridded rule and mat only if you already own them (1 set needed per 5 students.\n-Ground weft yarn to match the diameter of the warp sent by instructor\n-Interesting quilt fabric.  An email will be sent to each student before the workshop with instructions and examples of what kind and amounts of quilt fabric to bring.\n-Cones\, balls or thrums of pattern inlay weaving or knitting yarns from home.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSign ups\, $50 deposit\, and $30 supply fee are welcome at the December meeting\, or contact Linda Stryker to get on the list and mail her the funds.

To be held at our St. Andrews location on both Feb 15\, and 16\, 9:00 am to 4:30 pm. \n\nMaximum class number:  16\nApproximate cost:  $100-$160\, depending on class size.\n\nSupply fee includes 3 spiral bound notebooks\, netting shuttle\, supplies for color wraps\, and mailing to a central location for distribution.\n\n\nRosalie lives in Milwaukee\, Oregon.  She teaches classes in Kumihimo\, Huck Lace\, and Rep weave.   She has authored the book An Exaltation of Blocks\, KongoGumi: a Cacophony of Spots – Coils-Zags-Lines. The Twenty-Four Interlacements of Edo Yatsu Gumi\, and the Thirty-Seven Interlacements of Hira Kara Gumi.  \n\nHer Rep hangings have been exhibited nationally and internationally\, including three exhibitions in Kyoto\, Japan.  Her weavings hang in corporate offices and private residences.  She has written articles for Shuttle\, Spindle and Dyepot\, Handwoven\, and Weavers’ magazines and the journal Strands.\n\nSign up at the November meeting.  Deposit is $50 plus $25 supply fee\, due by the December 13 meeting.  Balance of class fee due at January meeting. DESCRIPTION:Mary Lane\, an Olympia tapestry artist\, will be sharing her work with us at our October meeting. Mary began weaving tapestry in 1976 and in 1982 became a founding member of the Scheuer Tapestry Studio in New York City. Her tapestries have been published and exhibited internationally and have been collected by both private and corporate art collections\, including the IBM Corporation\, the State of Maine\, the City of Seattle\, the Regional Arts and Culture Council\, the Northland Investment Corporation and Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital. She has taught at the Parsons School of Design\, the University of Maine and The Evergreen State College

DESCRIPTION:Yvonne will teach us how to use two heddles on our rigid heddle looms.  The class will be held at the Antique Sandwich Shop in Tacoma.  Since most of us do not yet own two rigid heddles of the same dent\, we will attempt to swap around and loan heddles to each other to conduct this class.  If time allows\, she will demonstrate two heddle Krokbragd as well.    $50.00 deposit due.
